Santa Baby

RS gets ready for his first Christmas.

Au Coucher du Soleil

The sun was setting behind us as we crossed Le Pont Neuf, and headed for home.

First Across the Finished Line

Its that time of year again. I love late summer wildflowers. "They're not dead flowers," I've been telling my kids. "They're naturally sun dried."

Minneapolis Morning

Minneapolis may call itself the "City of Lakes," but it has always, from its beginnings, been a child of the river.

Knowledge and Timber

The Dragon and the Lotus

More bugs! More flowers! More bugs on flowers!

26 June 2007

Magic Beans

More dead flowers! Or something. Wild blue indigo seed pods turn a silvery charcoal color in the fall, and dried seeds rattle around in brittle pods when the wind blows. Imagine an entire symphony of baby rattles...

Bridge to Somewhere

Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, the actual point of all this really is to get you from one place to another. The Wabasha Street bridge in downtown St. Paul opened to
traffic in July of 1998, but the elaborate stair towers on either side took an additional three years to complete.

A Mill Update

There's been a small change or two recently, including a bit of 'bridge bling,' and the massive riverfront makeover finally landing on the east bank.

We're Not Using it Anymore

Flour mill surplus. Lightly used. (Actually, its from the Washburn-Crosby mill. Perhaps its a fire sale?)

Nearing the End

I love dead flowers! Often the most striking lines and colors come as they slowly fade away.

Gone Fishing

Trout lilies come up thick in places, so that long before the trees have their leaves back the forest floor is a sea of green. There might be a hundred lush green plants that don't flower in a given year for every one that does.

Skyline Fantasy

My favorite view of Minneapolis, looking downstream from Broadway Ave.

Split Rock Sunrise

The 97 year old Split Rock lighthouse greets the new day from a 130' cliff on Superior's north shore.

A Mill is a Mill

The last of the mighty water driven flour mills that made Minneapolis what it is, and the monumental stone arch bridge, which once carried the Empire Builder across the river.

Tiny Toad

This is a toad, right? (bufo americanus, anyone?) Whatever its name, this sure was a little thing, not much more than thumbnail sized.
