Sanguine

Bloodroots are far and away my favorite flower. Its an inspiration to see them jutting up from the layer of dead leaves, well before the rest of the forest has awakened. In a couple short weeks, they're gone again for the year. "Sangine" in English means hopeful or optimistic, but the Latin root means blood or bloody. The scientific name for bloodroot is "Sanguinaria Canadensis."
